How to add a domain

Adding a domain is how Cyber Perimeter starts watching your external security. We check your DNS, email and web security from the outside. There's nothing to install, and you don't need to change any DNS records to start.

Add your first domain

1. On your dashboard, select Add a domain. Once you have a domain, add more from Assets with Add domain.
2. Choose Domain, then enter your main domain, like example.com (not www.example.com).
3. Tell us whether the domain sends or receives email. If you're not sure, choose I'm not sure and we'll work it out from its DNS records.
4. Select Add domain and start scan.

As you type, we check that the domain:

• is in a valid format
• isn't already in your account
• is registered and resolving
• has nameservers configured

The button unlocks once all four pass. If you've only just registered the domain or changed its nameservers, DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to reach everyone. Try again once they have.

What happens next

Your first scan starts straight away. It covers:

• DNS: nameservers, DNSSEC, CAA and zone transfers
• Email authentication: SPF, DKIM, DMARC, MTA-STS, TLS-RPT, BIMI and your mail servers
• Websites: SSL/TLS certificates, security headers, exposed files and outdated software
• Network: open and risky ports
• Brand and discovery: subdomains, lookalike domains, certificate transparency logs and blocklists

These first scans don't use up your manual scan allowance.

You'll land on the Set up screen for your domain. A progress bar shows how many checks have finished. You don't need to wait: the scan keeps running while you look around. The optional steps on this screen add DMARC reporting, TLS reporting and website monitoring, and each one helps your posture score. Finish them now, or select Do this later and come back any time.

When the scan is done, the screen shows your posture score. Select Finish, go to my score to see your dashboard.

We find your subdomains for you

As part of the first scan, we search public certificate transparency logs for subdomains of your domain. Any that resolve are added to your assets and scanned automatically. We search again every week.

To search now, open the domain from Assets, open the More actions menu and select Discover subdomains. It can take a few minutes.

Add subdomains and IP addresses yourself

On the add screen, switch the type to Subdomain or IP address:

• Subdomains are always free and don't count towards your plan.
• IP addresses must be a single IPv4 address, like 203.0.113.10. Address ranges aren't supported.

To add several domains at once, open the Add domain menu on the Assets page and choose Paste list.

Plan limits

Domains and IP addresses share your plan's asset limit. Subdomains are always free. The Assets page shows how many billable assets you're using. When you reach your limit, the Add domain button tells you.

How often we scan

• Every day: email authentication, nameservers, open ports, blocklists, lookalike domains and subdomain takeover
• Every week: SSL/TLS certificates, security headers, DNSSEC, CAA, domain registration details and the software your websites run
• Every 6 hours: new certificates issued for your domains

To scan now, open the domain from Assets and select Scan now. Manual scans have a daily limit, which resets each day.
